Frequently asked questions

Is the Illinois roofing license exam hard?

Yes, most people find it difficult, even with roofing experience. The exam is about theory, building codes and Illinois law rather than what you do on a roof, and it is timed. Our students pass at 98%, because we teach exactly what the exam asks.

How often is the Illinois roofing exam offered, and when is the deadline to register?

The state offers the roofing exam six times a year, and registration closes 28 to 30 days before each exam date. That is why our classes run on the exam schedule. Pick the exam date you want, register before the deadline, and we will get you ready in time.

Do I need to take a class to pass the Illinois roofing exam?

No, the state does not require a class, but we strongly recommend one. The exam tests theory and regulations, not installation, so twenty years on a roof does not prepare you for it on its own. Our class is built for first-timers and veterans alike, and every study material is included.

How do I register for the Illinois roofing exam?

You register with Continental Testing Services at continentaltesting.net, exam fee is $248. When you register for our class, we help you fill out the forms, so nothing gets missed. The exam fee is separate from the $125 license application fee paid to the IDFPR.
